PSEL Bali: Advancing Integrated Waste Management in Indonesia

On July 8, 2026, construction officially began on the Denpasar Raya Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facility in Bali. I see this as an important milestone in advancing integrated waste management solutions in Indonesia.

In line with the President’s direction, Danantara Indonesia is working to accelerate the development of solutions that address the country’s pressing waste management challenges while creating broader environmental, energy, and economic benefits.

The selection of project partners has involved a rigorous and prudent process, supported by dozens of experts and experienced professionals with knowledge of similar initiatives in countries including Malaysia, Kuwait, Thailand, Australia, Germany, China, and Ireland.

The Denpasar Raya PSEL facility is designed to deliver measurable benefits for waste management, clean energy generation, and the local economy. The project is targeted to process more than 500,000 tonnes of waste annually, reduce the amount of waste requiring landfill disposal in Bali by more than 40%, and reduce emissions from landfills by up to 80%.

It is also expected to generate enough electricity to supply approximately 100,000 households and create around 1,200 jobs.

For me, this initiative is about more than building a facility. It is about developing practical, integrated solutions that can support healthier communities and a more sustainable future.

Starting in Bali, we hope to contribute to a cleaner Indonesia, one step at a time.
