Inauguration of the Bekasi City Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) Facility Construction
Indonesia’s waste challenge will not resolve on its own. It requires practical solutions, new approaches, and meaningful transformation.
This is the foundation of Danantara Indonesia’s work with Denera on the development of Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facilities. On August 26, construction of the PSEL Kota Bekasi facility in Ciketing Udik, Bantar Gebang, officially began.
The project represents a concrete step toward addressing the waste management challenge in Bekasi while creating environmental, energy, and economic value for the surrounding community. The facility is expected to create nearly 1,000 green jobs and provide energy for tens of thousands of households.
The development also demonstrates what can be achieved through collaboration between the central government, local government, Danantara Indonesia, and other stakeholders in developing an integrated approach to waste management.
As part of the project’s groundbreaking ceremony, we also witnessed the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with PT PLN (Persero). The agreement provides the commercial foundation for electricity generated by the facility to be absorbed into the PLN grid, supporting the project’s long-term operations and offtake certainty.
There is still a long road ahead, but projects like this are an important part of building practical solutions to Indonesia’s waste challenge.
Step by step, we can work toward a cleaner and more sustainable Indonesia.
