PanduIt is normal to worry about Indonesia that is at a near-certain recession. According to data of Statistics Indonesia, our country’s economy grows -5.32% in the second quarter of this year and it is inversely proportional to exactly the same quarter last year. However, as an economic actor, I believe that the Indonesian economy will be able to improve and emerge from Indonesia’s economic recession stronger in the third and fourth quarters.

I appreciate one of the economic policies initiated by the government, namely the #BanggaBuatanIndonesia program which is juxtaposed with the theme of Indonesia’s 75th independence celebration, Indonesia Maju. This government program encourages domestic MSME players to carry out online transactions in collaboration with various existing marketplaces.

It is important to know that approximately 1 million MSMEs have been joining various huge e-commerce marketplaces in Indonesia for the past 8 weeks (starting from 6 August 2020). Shopee, for instance, participates in the promotion of the MSMEs and Indonesia’s economic recovery through the program of #BanggaBuatanIndonesia.

As in-demand e-commerce in the domestic market, Shopee is of benefit to MSME players in making transactions. In collaboration with a wide range of parties, its features provide satisfying assistance to goods delivery and loan procedures for MSMEs.

Not only the government, but business actors must also focus on making the business process easier at times like this. From an investor’s point of view, this pandemic will show the qualities of business leaders on keeping their companies growing which in the end can attract investors for their businesses.

“I am optimistic that Indonesia’s economy will recover from the economic downturn in the Q-3 & Q-4 because the government and business actors are serious in providing immediate relief for businesses during the pandemic.”
